See for example, a paper we wrote very early in the crisis in September 2008, which was recently published: Caprio, Gerard, Asli Demirgüç-Kunt, and Edward Kane. 2010. “The 2007 Meltdown in Structured Securitization: Searching for Lessons, not Scapegoats.” The World Bank Research Observer 25(1): 125-155. Also see the recent book "The Squam Lake Report: Fixing the Financial System" written by a long list of distinguished academics, including Raghu Rajan, Rene Stulz, Doug Diamond, Rick Mishkin and others, which clearly identifies policy interventions in the housing market as having contributed to the crisis and its severity.
