Thank you for your interest in the World Bank SMART program. The application process is now closed and short-listed candidates have been contacted. If you have not been contacted, your application has not been considered further in the selection process but thank you for your interest and we wish you every success in the future. We also invite you to continue to review employment opportunities on our Career page.

Response to our invitation to talented young Arabic speakers to join our team here in the Middle East and North Africa region of the World Bank has been tremendous. Thank you! We are excited to see such an enthusiasm for working on development matters in MENA. We are processing all the enquiries and because there are so many, it's quite a task.

Arne Hoel l Tunisia 2012Let me share with you a few more tips for managing your application to the SMART (Strategic MNA Arabic Recruitment of Talent) program. And if there are other qualified candidates seeing this for the first time, don't be put off by the numbers. Let us know who you are.
So, my tips:

  • There is no on-line application. Candidates should submit their application letters and resume to Christiane Youakim cyouakim@worldbank.org.
  • Only resumes and application letters written in English language will be considered.
  • Candidates should have a post-graduate degree (Masters or PhD) and a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Selected candidates will be offered a one year renewable term appointment.
  • Eligible candidates must be 35 years old or less.
  • The positions that will be offered through the SMART program will be Washington-based.
  • Only applicants who get short-listed will be contacted.
  • For more information about the SMART program please refer to the link here.

WoW...I am surprised no one commented on the blog when I expect thousands have applied. I will take the initiative and start this thread for all of you who are interested in working for the bank in MENA. Does any of you know: When will the short listed applicants be contacted? How many slots are available for this programme this year? Does the process follow the same as YPP? short listed, complete application ,interviews in DC and Paris and then recommendations to the board with names? Will selected SMART's start in Next September? Looking forward for hefty responses!

Kindly note that I tried e-mailing my resume to the e-mail address mentioned above (cyouakim@worldbank.org) and I got a failure to deliver e-mail stating that: User cyouakim (cyouakim@worldbank.org) not listed in Domino Directory I was therefore unable to apply!!
