The work is a big effort and success worth commending and emulating. However, when money is spent to pay for ecosystem services, the established ecosystem should be able to reward itself through the investment. That is,it should be able to bring returns, maintain itself and the environment, and provide direct and indirect benefits to the people. For example, planting only acacia trees is not enough to give the multiple benefits that are required by the environment and the people and to set off pressure from the forest and other protected areas. Therefore, we should do mixed planting with trees that bring multiple benefits such food and fruit trees, and hard wood indigenous fast growing species. If this is done, it will sustain the project for the long-term. This is so especially if the local people who are immediate custodians are reaping direct benefit, they will avoid destroying the forest and the environment.
