The immense success of CMSA model in Andhra proves once again that women are the most crucuial elements of change. Traditionally women have been the experts of seed management, pest-management and took important decisons in agriculture. However as the mechanisation and usage of chemical inputs increased after the first green revolution, the role of women in agriculture changed from active decison-maker to agriculture laborer. Subsequently the soil health and water table started depleting. The efforts through CMSA are clearly to reverse this pattern and move back to the natural methods of cultivation. And the best way to instrument this change at accelerated pace is to go back to our traditional farm scientists- the mahila kisan!
