Mobilizing Climate Finance Key Priority at COP19

The devastation from Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines last week has brought renewed urgency to the United Nations COP19 climate meeting in Poland – and a strong focus on the need for developing nations to build resilience against climate-related disasters. The world must ramp up finance for low-carbon infrastructure that can withstand increasingly extreme weather events and climate impacts, writes Rachel Kyte, the World Bank’s vice president of sustainable development, in a blog post today. “The success of the climate negotiations rests heavily on climate finance pledges coming through and finance flowing to where it is needed most,” she writes.
