One comment I would have is about the relative high cost of inpatient care in Asia in the context of relatively low health expenditure/GDP ratios. So we have a bit of contradiction here, but this could be explained by possible skewed allocation of total health expenditure to inpatient care but not sure about the evidence. But we also have the unprecedented rise of NCDs in the region, countries getting old before getting rich. And this comes with a cost. With weak PHC systems and weak population based effective public policy measures (e.g. taxes on health damaging goods and behaviors), consequences of this rapid epidemiological change are left to costly hospital care.
