Friday Round up: Chief Economists Roundtable, Migration and Development Brief, WDI 2015, the Global Findex, Land Governance and Climate-Smart Agriculture, and a call for proposals

A World Bank Chief Economists Roundtable event of April 15 focused on the challenge of creating sustainable global growth in an environment of slowing growth.
 
Global remittances will slow sharply this year due to weak economic growth in Europe, deterioration of the Russian economy and the depreciation of the euro and ruble, according to the latest Migration and Development Brief, released this week.

The 2014 Global Findex database, an updated edition of what is by far the world’s most comprehensive gauge of global progress on financial inclusion, was launched  April 15.
 
The 2015 World Development Indicators, the Bank’s primary collection of development indicators compiled from officially-recognized international sources, was launched this week. It presents the most current and accurate global development data available, and includes national, regional and global estimates.
 
This Saturday at 9 am Washington time, there will be a Land Governance and Climate-Smart Agriculture where ministers and experts from the developed and developing world will ponder ways to better integrate land and climate-smart agriculture into countries’ development strategies. A call for research proposals on South Asia regional integration has been issued. Research should pertain to regional economic cooperation in South Asia, including trade in goods and services, investment and FDI, value chains, energy sharing, etc.
