Douglas Zhihua Zeng is a Senior Economist at the World Bank, and a founding member of the "Knowledge for Development" Program of the World Bank Institute. He has advised many countries in East Asia and Pacific, Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and Europe and Central Asia on their economic development policies and strategies, through solid economic research and technical assistance. He is a renowned international expert in the areas of macroeconomics, finance, SEZs, industrial clusters, innovation, competitiveness, and knowledge economy, have published extensively. Recent publications (including co-authored) include Building Engines for Growth and Competitiveness in China: Experience with Special Economic Zones and Industrial Clusters; Knowledge, Technology, and Cluster-Based Growth in Africa; Promoting Enterprise-Led Innovation in China; Innovation for Development and the Role of Government; and China & Knowledge Economy, among others. Prior to joining the World Bank in 1998, he worked as an Economist at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (a top think tank in China) and Ford Foundation Scholar at Stanford University.
