Donate online to help victims of cyclone Nargis in Myanmar - Some suggestions

As advanced in an earlier post, here's a short list to the webpages for online donations of international NGOs that have a large presence in the country and so are likely to be most effective under the difficult circumstances:

  • International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent - Donations
  • Save the Children - Donations
  • CARE - Donations
  • Malteser International (This is a German medical NGO which was able to send in supplies within a couple of days after the cyclone). - Website with info on donations
  • Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières - Donations

RE: Donate on-line

The Associated Press published a few days ago a list of charities accepting relief donations for the victims of the Myanmar/Burma cyclone,

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5h3HoHl_XfhgzQcBgXeSa0E03PPnAD90GB69O9

The list was furnished to the AP by InterAction, which is the largest coalition of US-based international NGOs; it has a 5-star rating at the site Charity Navigator, a US-charity evaluation group (www.charitynavigator.org/).

For those interested in donating to such aid agencies, or other charities, this evaluation site can provide information and ratings on, and comparisons of, both the organizational efficiency and organizational capacity of US-based charities. No information is provided, however,
on what degree of access to Myanmar/Burma these agencies have at this time.

Re: Donate on-line
