Javier E. Baez
World Bank Senior Economist
Javier Baez is a Senior Economist and co-Lead of the Global Solutions Group on Risk Management for Poverty Reduction in the Poverty and Equity GP. Javier is also a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA). His areas of interests lie in the analysis of the short- and long-term effects of shocks, either natural (hurricanes, floods earthquakes) or man-made (civil conflicts), on key development outcomes as well as on the effectiveness of policies and programs to reduce poverty and increase resilience to shocks. His research has been featured in several press articles and published in the Journal of Development Economics, American Economic Review, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Journal of Development Studies, Climatic Change and World Bank Research Observer. Javier holds a PhD in Economics from Syracuse University, a master’s in Development Economics from Harvard University and B.A. and M.Sc. degrees in Economics from Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia.
