Civil Society Impact on Budgetary Priorities, Transparency, and Results

Following a working paper issued by the Institute of Development Studies on six civil society case studies, the World Bank hosted last week a panel on “Civil Society Impact on Budgetary Priorities, Transparency, and Results”.

 

Lesser-developed countries have undergone significant changes to their budgetary process over the last ten years. Although the influence of civil society organizations on national budgets is generally acknowledged, it’s unclear exactly how much of an impact these organizations can have, or how they can become more effective.
