Weekly links November 1: Wage subsidies in South Africa, the Amazing Growth of Nigeria, and Mobility Measurement

I guess people were more focused on scaring up candy than writing this week, but a few interesting links:
- Neil Rankin summarizes early results from a wage subsidy program in South Africa [1] on Econ 3x3: “Incentives to create employment for young people are unlikely to generate the large numbers of jobs required to substantially reduce youth unemployment rates. But they do seem like a relatively cheap and effective way to create some employment, particularly when compared to other government schemes”
- Nigeria’s economy is predicted to grow 40% in one day [2] when the revision in GDP numbers comes through – from Quartz
- The research group is in the process of updating our webpages to make it easier for us to keep them up-to-date and easier for people to find things on them. You can check out mine here [3] – which includes a newly accepted paper on how to measure mobility when all you have is repeated cross-sections [4].
