Open Data Initiative: a look at the past week

It's been a week since we launched the open data initiative and the feedback we've been receiving is truly amazing.  Here's a tag cloud showing what the twitter community has been saying:

  • 132,000+ daily unique visitors
  • 134,000+ visits
  • 671,000+ page views
  • 53,000+ video plays from 100+ countries
  • 7,000+ inbound links
  • 23,000+ downloaded files
  • 200+ email subscriptions
  • 224% increase in visitors compared to old Data site section

I have not seen many articles on the subject, but the WorldBank Data API is very easy to use and quite extensive. See for example: http://r-chart.blogspot.com/2010/06/3-lines-of-r-code-to-process-web.html http://r-chart.blogspot.com/2010/06/plotting-world-bank-data-with-r.html Kudos to the developers responsible and the willingness to promote transparency.
