They are questions that pop up frequently: How does it operate? Who's in charge? What is the organization's history?
We set out to answer those questions – and offer a look at some of the things you might not know about the Bank – in the newly revamped "About Us" section on the Bank’s website.
The Bank's Online Communications team worked closely with web editors in the Corporate Secretariat and other units to reorganize and streamline the section, with a focus on delivering updated information in a way that's easier for our external audience to access and understand.
The About Us section provides context for the rest of worldbank.org. It offers first-time visitors a clear explanation of the Bank's mission, its work, its member countries and the people who lead it. For repeat visitors, the About Us section serves as a reference – annual reports, Board activity, senior management information and more are found here.
The section also offers an opportunity to explore the Bank’s history. Did you know that Japan's bullet trains were developed in 1964 with $80 million from the Bank? Visit an interactive timeline to learn more about the Bank's work since its inception in 1944.
Multilingual and Accessible
Much of the About Us content has been updated in English, French, Spanish and Arabic, and Chinese will be coming soon. We have simplified the section navigation, added more images and created two new (but familiar) pages:
Also, users can now find important member country information on one, printer-friendly page.
World Bank at a Glance App
You can take all of this updated information on the go with the new World Bank at a Glance iPhone app.
The new app aims to accomplish the same goals as the About Us refresh, by making Bank information more accessible for users on the go. Created as a companion to the "A Guide to the World Bank, Third Edition," the free app can be downloaded from iTunes .
