I'm surprised to know that bikes beat out car production by 40 million! With 50% of the human population having the ability to ride, there certainly should be a global effort to promote more cycling. As technology and interest develop, affordable biking solutions for the disabled would bring that percentage much higher.
I understand there would be effort involved in making biking a viable option, as city planning in many places would have to add additional bike routes and accommodate for the growth. However, America as a whole would only benefit from investing in cycling. We could fight obesity rates and make a huge cut in emissions at the same time! All most people would need to jump on board would be a proper government incentive, much like the ones that come with installing solar panels in a home.
