Quote of the Week

“Think of a world where everybody is afraid to speak out, then think of a world where no one is afraid to speak up.”

- Mary Robinson, Former President of Ireland and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

To commemorate World Press Freedom Day 2009 (yesterday, May 3), we are posting the quote above by Mary Robinson taken from a public service announcement (PSA) entitled The Elders Celebrate World Press Freedom, produced by Internews Network for World Press Freedom Day 2008.

Internews Network describes the PSA on its YouTube channel as such: A PSA "... on media freedom on behalf of The Elders group and their human rights awareness campaign, Every Human Has Rights. The PSA features former United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Mary Robinson, who, along with Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan and others, forms The Elders, a group of leaders dedicated to use their wisdom, independent leadership and experience to tackle some of the world's toughest problems."
