Economist, Social Protection and Labor Global Practice
Achim Schmillen is an economist at the World Bank’s Social Protection and Labor Global Practice with around ten years of experience in research, analysis, policy advice and technical assistance. His primary specialization is applied labor economics and he has also worked extensively on social protection, education and the economics of transition. Achim joined the World Bank in 2013 through the Young Professionals Program and initially worked as an economist for the South Asia Human Development Unit. Previous work experience include time with the National Bureau of Economic Research (Cambridge, Massachusetts), the Institute for Employment Research (Nuremberg, Germany) and the Institute for East European Studies (Regensburg, Germany). Achim holds a PhD in economics from the University of Regensburg and spent time as visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, Los Angeles.
