Policy Lead, Education in Emergencies and Protracted Crises, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office

Dr. Chris Berry is the policy lead for education in emergencies and protracted crises (EiEPC) for the UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). In this role, he oversees the UK’s funding to Education Cannot Wait, supports the delivery of education programmes in a range of EiEPC settings (such as Myanmar, Syria, Sudan, Gaza, the Sahel and Ethiopia), and develops new policies and partnerships. Before he took up his current role, he was an FCDO education adviser in Sierra Leone where he helped establish a new education programme post Ebola, and in Ethiopia, where he worked closely with the World Bank and other partners on an education quality improvement programme. He has also worked on education research focusing on shock responsive service delivery and innovation in EiEPC. Before joining the UK government, he also worked as an educator in the Caribbean, Indonesia, and Sierra Leone. He has a PhD from the Institute of Education, University of London.
