Devashish Mitra is the Professor of Economics and Gerald B. and Daphna Cramer Professor of Global Affairs at the Maxwell School, Syracuse University. He was the Chair of the Economics Department at Syracuse University from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2010.
His research and teaching interests are in International Trade, Political Economy and Development Economics. More specifically, he has worked on the role of politics in general and of interest groups in particular in the determination of trade policy; and on the impact of trade on productivity growth and labor market outcomes. He is currently working on the impact of  trade on employment, labor shares and unionization. His work has been published in well-known journals like the American Economic Review, the Review of Economics & Statistics, the Economic Journal, the Journal of International Economics and the Journal of Development Economics.
