Gessye Ginelle Safou-Mat
Gessye is a Fulbright alumni holding a Masters of Arts in International Development, with a focus on Social Entrepreneurship from American University. Prior to this, she obtained a Bachelor degree in Banking and Finance at the Regent University College in Accra, Ghana. Passionate about poverty reduction and social entrepreneurship for development, Gessye worked in various development initiatives, including the Meridian International Group, on the USAID funded Raise Health Initiative project and LDI Africa, an African social enterprise seeking to support young professionals and the emerging markets of Africa. She also provided consulting services to the Republic of Congo’s REDD+ proposal and obtained a UN fellowship focused on Youth empowerment. She worked with the Inter-American Development Bank, on the analysis of the effects of crime and violence on the development of the Caribbean.

Multitalented, Gessye has also used her voice and creativity to bring awareness to issues she is passionate about such as Africa and the Youth. Her latest project, the documentary “The Africa We Know sought to provide a positive insight on the continent that is never shown in the media. The documentary was featured in the Huffington Post and will be viewed at the Slum Film Festival in Kenya.  Gessye is currently working as a Communications Consultant for the Leadership, Learning and Innovation department of the World Bank Group and has directed the filming of the “African Youth in Action” series.
