Regional Director, Infrastructure, Latin America and the Caribbean

Maria Marcela Silva is the Regional Director for Infrastructure in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region (LCR) at the World Bank, responsible for providing strategic vision and direction for the infrastructure program in the region. A Colombian national, Ms. Silva joined the World Bank in 2002.

During her early years in the Bank, Ms. Silva worked in the Latin America and Caribbean region as a Transport Specialist. Since then, Ms. Silva has held various positions both in operations and at the corporate level and has served as a member of the Operations Board of the Bank. Her most recent assignments have been as Transport Practice Manager in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region and in the East Africa Region.

Before joining the Bank, Ms. Silva worked for the Colombian Government at the Infrastructure Unit of the National Planning Department. Ms. Silva holds a Bachelor and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and a Master’s Degree in Economics and Finance from Bristol University.
