Markus works in WB’s Global Land and Geospatial Unit, which is aiming to enhance land tenure security worldwide. He is working with land administration and geospatial projects, analytics and advisory in Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos, while he is also the climate change focal points for the unit’s entire portfolio. Before joining the World Bank, Markus worked as GIS and remote sensing specialist in global forestry consultant company in climate change and forest management projects in Laos, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, and he was based in Laos for three years. Markus holds an MSc in Geography, while he is currently finalizing his PhD in Geoinformatics (University of Helsinki) focusing on geospatial modeling of land system changes in Global South.
