Satoru Ueda is the Lead Dam Specialist at the World Bank - serving as the corporate focal point of dam safety since 2013. He has 35 years of global experience in planning, design, and safety review of large dams as well as water resources development and management. Since Satoru joined the World Bank in 1998, he has contributed to more than 200 operations in water resources, irrigation, hydropower and flood management, out of which there were more than 100 dam-related projects in over 60 countries. He has also played a key role in the development and implementation of the Bank’s dam safety related policies and knowledge products including the Good Practice Note on Dam Safety under the Environmental & Social Framework and the “Laying the Foundations: A Global Analysis of Regulatory Frameworks for the Safety of Dams and Downstream Communities.
