Social Development Specialist (Gender)
Uzma Quresh is working with the World Bank Group Pakistan Office as Social Development Specialist (Gender). Uzma has more than 14 years of experience of working on gender equality and women’s empowerment with international and national organizations covering a diverse range of issues including women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, enterprise development, violence against women, disaster risk reduction/management, food security, gender responsive budgeting and planning etc. She has previously worked with UN Women in Pakistan for eight years leading its women’s economic empowerment program and managed UN Women Uganda’s portfolio on women’s economic empowerment in 2016. Uzma has also worked with the Government, civil society and international development partners on gender policy and data issues and has supported the provincial governments in drafting policies for informal workers and promoting financing for women’s economic issues. She provided technical assistance to the Government to strengthen its sex disaggregated data base on feminization of poverty, violence against women and women’s health and spearheaded the development of a number of studies on women’s issues. She co-authored an action research on violence against women in Pakistan. She has worked with partners and her team in strengthening their capacities on gender, results based management and monitoring and evaluation.
