Great article Dipan ! It's not just airbags, which can probably be mandated into cars, but broader legislation issues. In India, there are no laws on child seats that I know of (something my son enjoys - a restraint free ride) and few people even care to wear seat-belts (cops may ticket you these days, so people barely sling it over their shoulders). Is that changing or likely to change? One can mandate it through ticketing, but more importantly, the general public needs to become aware of the importance of these safety issues - the media has a critical role to play here. I'm always amazed at how effectively the media in the US marginalized cigarette smoking as being uncool among the younger generation, particularly in cities. Hard to do in India when Bollywood stars are smoking cigarettes while stunt driving their cars!
