Interesting to have an article on biodiversity and not one mention of global warming and its impact on ecosystems, habitat and species. The role of Rio and other multi-national mining companies in global greenhouse gas emissions is also a notable omission. It is of no value having net positive impacts in specific locations if there is a net negative impact in a global context. The loss of habitat, ecosystem health plus climate change is now driving the 6th Great Extinction of species on this planet. Credible science has put the possible impact of the 6th Great Extinction as likely to cause the loss of half the species of plants and animals on Earth by 2100. Wild pessimism is as bad as wild optimism, however, ignoring the real drivers of non-sustainability is a sign that we have clearly lost our way.
