Energy prices surged, non-energy mixed in January—Pink Sheet

The energy price index surged 12% in January, driven by a 78% spike in U.S. natural gas prices and a 4.6% increase in crude oil, the World Bank's Pink Sheet reported. Non-energy prices rose 2.9%.

The agricultural price index eased 0.5% in January, with food prices and raw materials each up 1.3%, while beverage prices fell 7.5%. Fertilizer prices increased 2.4%.

Metal prices climbed 9.3% in January, propelled by sharp gains in tin (+20.2%), nickel (+19.4%), and copper (+10.4%). Precious metals jumped 17%, led by a 47.7% surge in silver.
