Ahmad Jawad Asghar

EdTech and AI Lead, Gates Foundation

With over 15 years of experience working across education systems in Africa and South Asia, Ahmad Jawad Asghar works on how technology can help education systems respond to the global learning crisis. As the EdTech and AI lead for the Gates Foundation’s Global Education team, he focuses on integrating AI, data systems, and evidence-aligned digital tools into public-sector structured pedagogy programs across Sub-Saharan Africa and India. His work emphasizes solutions that strengthen—not replace—core instructional practices: better assessment, more consistent implementation, improved content quality, and timely support to teachers and school systems.

Jawad’s approach is shaped by over a decade of advising governments on reforms that link technology with teaching and learning, from national data platforms and assessment reforms to teacher workforce modernization and system accountability. He began his career as a mathematics teacher, grounding his belief that technology must serve classroom practice. He brings technical training in computer engineering and statistics to the challenge of building scalable, equitable, tech-enabled learning systems for all.
