Data Scientist, South Asia Regional (SAR) Stats Team, World Bank

Jaime Fernandez is a Data Scientist with the World Bank’s South Asia Regional (SAR) Stats Team. A mathematician with an MSc in Applied Mathematics, an MSc in Development Economics, and a PhD in Development Economics, he previously served as an Associate Professor and Department Head at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, where he taught econometrics and statistical modeling and helped lead its Data Science program.

Since 2019, he has supported World Bank analytics across Latin America and South Asia, working on poverty-trend estimations for Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka, designing vulnerability analyses, and developing new geospatial and scorecard platforms for SAR. His earlier work includes contributions to the Commitment to Equity (CEQ) tool and distributional assessments, alongside advisory roles in Ecuador’s government.
