Attorney and international development advisor

Jeffrey Ghannam, J.D. works at the nexus of international development, law, media, and good governance. He has worked with the World Bank infrastructure team and has served as a technical advisor in international development programs across the Middle East and North Africa region and in Bangladesh.
 
He has taught as a visiting professor on the intertwined nature of law, media and policy at the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service and at the University of Michigan. He also has served the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the formation of a $2.5 billion financing facility with the Islamic Development Bank to support healthier lives.
 
A thought-leader and author, he reported on the rise and use of digital media in the Arab civil movements and media as a form of aid in the humanitarian crises that followed, for the National Endowment for Democracy. A sought-after presenter, he has spoken about his research at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Johns Hopkins University, Brookings Institution, Google’s Internet at Liberty, and the UN Public Service Forum, among others.
 
Earlier in his career, he was on staff at top-tier media including The New York Times and reported on law and served as an editor at the Detroit Free Press. He also has contributed to The Washington Post, The Economist online, American Bar Association Journal, The Boston Globe, and Time magazine in Cairo, among other media outlets.
