William Zhang

Zhijun (William) Zhang is the global lead for digital safeguards at the World Bank Group, where he leads efforts in enhancing the maturity of cybersecurity practices in developing countries. Before his current role, William spent three years at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) - Innovation Hub, where he led a number of projects focusing on the security, resilience, and integrity of payment systems as well as the overall financial infrastructure.

Before joining the BIS, he was the lead security architect at the World Bank Group, where his team was responsible for security architecture design and assessment of all technology platforms and business solutions within the organization. William’s career in cybersecurity started when he was working at The Vanguard Group, where he worked in user experience design, emerging technology research, system architecture, before becoming a security architect. William received his BS degree from Peking University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, both in computer science.
