Abdul Qadeer Jawad works at the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) of the Government of Afghanistan as Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration. He has academic foundation in Economics, Business Administration and Finance. As a Chevening Scholar at the University of Leeds in the UK, he completed a Masters of Science in Economics (MSc Economics) with a research focus on Socioeconomic Challenges of Mining in Afghanistan. He also holds a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and a Bachelors degree in Finance and Marketing from Pakistan. For the past eight years he has applied his education at a national and regional level at various roles as a policy analyst portfolio manager, consulting and advisory and executive posts within a variety of ministries and agencies, including the Government of Afghanistan’s (GoA) Ministry of Finance, GoA Ministry of Economy, the World Bank Country Office in Kabul, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Prior to his current appointment, he served as a technical advisor on economic and investment promotion aspects of mining at the GoA Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP).
