Alwaleed Alatabani is the Lead Financial Sector Specialist at the World Bank in Vietnam.
Alwaleed leads the World Bank’s Finance, Competitiveness and Innovation Global Practice team and program in Vietnam. From 2013-2015 he was the Lead Financial Sector specialist based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Prior to that, he was on an external assignment with the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Tokyo, where he served as an Economic Advisor in the Credit Risk Analysis Department. Before moving to Tokyo, he was the Senior Financial Sector Specialist and cluster leader for Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia for almost four years. Alwaleed also worked as a Senior Risk Management Officer in the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), for four years from 2004-08, based in Washington DC. Alwaleed has extensive work experience on advising countries on a broad array of financial sector development topics and has undertaken assignments in more than 30 countries. Alwaleed holds two Masters degrees from the University of London and London School of Economics.
