Anna Fruttero is a Senior Economist in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Poverty and Equity team. Previously she has been in the Gender Group, working on Gender and Climate Change and providing upstream and just-in-time support to teams working on CCDRs. From 2018 to 2021, Anna spent three years on external service at the IMF where she contributed to the drafting of the Fund Gender Strategy, worked on female labor force participation and fiscal policy, inequality, the efficiency of public spending, and debt sustainability, as well as contributed to IMF program discussions and surveillance. Over the previous 14 years at the Bank, Anna led and contributed to operations, policy dialogue, and analytical activities in Eastern Europe, Latin America, North-Africa, South Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. She was also part of the core team working on the WDR2015, “Mind, Society, and Behavior”. Her main areas of interest and expertise include poverty and distributional analysis, social protection and labor, fiscal policy, social inclusion, norms and aspirations, behavioral economics applied to policy design, gender equality, and welfare impacts of public policy. She has published articles in refereed journals and has taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses at New York University and Johns Hopkins University. Originally from Italy, Anna holds a BA in Economics from Bocconi University and a Ph.D. in Economics from New York University.
