Anton Andonov is a Technical Director in Mott MacDonald Limited and leads the specialists structural/earthquake engineering team of Mott MacDonald in Sofia, Bulgaria. Mr. Andonov graduated Structural Engineering in 2005 from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia. Since then his practice is mainly focused on analysis and design of critical structures to extreme loads and has worked on seismic design/assessment projects in Bulgaria (public buildings, nuclear and hydro power plants, industrial facilities) Turkey (diplomatic buildings), Sakhalin, Russia (oil drilling facility) and UK (nuclear facilities). Mr. Andonov has experience in both seismic analysis/design and seismic probabilistic hazard and risk assessment. Between 2011 and 2016 Anton Andonov, was member of the Working Group on “Seismic Resistant Structures” of IABSE and the Space Architecture Technical Committee of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Currently he is a member of the WG “Dams & Earthquakes” of the European Club of ICOLD and a co-opted member of the UK Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team. With the UK EEFIT he was one of 11 earthquake specialists who undertook a scientific mission to the areas affected by the M9.0 2011 Tohoku Earthquake in Japan. Anton Andonov has over 40 papers published in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences on topics such as seismic analysis and design of mission critical structures, aircraft impact analysis on nuclear facilities, resilient urban planning and design of planetary bases. He has been invited twice to deliver SECED evening lecture in front of the UK Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics.
