Dr Borja G. Reguero’s interests span disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, and sustainable coastal management. He has over 10 years of experience in climate change, coastal adaptation, and how nature-based solutions and natural infrastructure can contribute to green growth and climate resilience, including through innovations in risk financing (e.g. insurance for reefs in Mexico). He has led technical and policy documents, as well as efforts to build capacity in climate-resilient management of coastal areas and small island states. Borja has developed strong partnerships with governments, private sector, other development agencies and academia. He holds a civil engineering degree from the University of Cantabria in Spain, a Ph.D. in Water Science and Technology, a M.S. in Coastal Engineering, and a M.S. in Applied Economics. In addition to the World Bank, he also holds appointments as an adjunct professor in the Coastal Science and Policy Program at the University of California Santa Cruz and as a Research Fellow with The Natural Capital Project at Stanford.
