Elias Masilela

Executive Chairman, DNA Economics, South Africa
Economist, editor, academic, strategist, policy formulator, negotiator, business leader, international events coordinator and author … these are just some of the roles that Elias Masilela has performed in his short professional life.

He holds a BA degree in Social Sciences (Economics and Statistics) from the University of Swaziland, and an MSc in Economic Policy and Analysis with a specialization in Money, Banking and International Economics, from the Addis Ababa University.

He is Executive Chairman of DNA Economics, Commissioner of the 1st & 2nd National Planning Commission; Chairman of the V&A Waterfront, Capital Harvest and Kalafong Hospital; Board member of Multichoice South Africa, Alternative Prosperity and ABSA Asset Management. He is also a Visiting Senior Fellow at Wits University.

Recently, CEO of the Public Investment Corporation (PIC). Other previous employers are the Central Bank of Swaziland, National Treasury and Sanlam.

He has sat on many influential Boards in South Africa, in different capacities, such as the Board of the South African Savings Institute (SASI), the Taylor Commission, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), the Government Employee Pension Fund (GEPF) and that of the Economic Research Southern Africa (ERSA) as well as the UNGC Board advising the Secretary General of the UN. A founder Chairman of the Financial Sector Charter Council.

He authored the book “Number 43 Trelawney Park; kwaMagogo”.
