Francesco Strobbe is a Senior Financial Economist with the World Bank Group (WBG). Over the past four years he has been responsible for the financial sector development agenda in Ethiopia. He leads technical assistance projects with the National Bank of Ethiopia, he was the lead author of the Ethiopia SME Finance Study and he is the team leader of the Women Entrepreneurship Development Project. He is currently in charge of the financial sector development agenda also in Madagascar and the Seychelles and he previously covered Indonesia, Lesotho and South Sudan. Prior to joining the World Bank in 2010 he worked as an economist for the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and has led microfinance projects for NGOs in Zambia and in Kenya. Francesco holds a PhD in Economics and Management from the University of Padua (Italy) and was a visiting scholar at Boston University and MIT in the USA.
