Francisco Obreque is a Senior Agricultural Specialist. Based in Lilongwe since 2019, he is currently the head of the agri-food program of the World Bank in Malawi. Previously he was focal point for agricultural investments and technical assistance in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
He is particularly passionate about how to help smallholder farmers take advantage of markets and technologies, and thrive.
Francisco is a Chilean national and an Agricultural Engineer with a Ph.D. in Rural Development from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Before joining the World Bank in 2012, he worked for the Chilean Government and as an international consultant at multiple multilateral agencies.
