Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim Shinwari has been Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Education, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, since December 2015. Although his career began in medicine, he has channeled his life experience and dedication to reforming and rebuilding the national education system.
 
Dr. Shinwari graduated from Kabul Medical University with an MD degree in medicine before earning a master’s degree in health management from Preston University in Islamabad, Pakistan. He began his career as a doctor serving rural communities and has worked with organizations such as the United Nations Children’s Fund, United Nations Population Fund, and the international NGO, Micronutrient Initiative. He also was CEO of an UN umbrella Civil Society Organization called: The Afghan Cultural Associations Jirga.
