Lead Infrastructure Finance Specialist
Richard MacGeorge is a Lead Infrastructure Finance Specialist in the Financial Solutions Unit of the World Bank. The Financial Solutions unit works alongside the World Bank’s water and other infrastructure Global Practices to help structure the public interface of commercially financed infrastructure. Much of this activity relates to risk management and, for residual risks left over from this process, the deployment of risk mitigation instruments. The World Bank Group has a range of financial instruments available for this purpose and these include insurance and guarantees. Prior to joining the World Bank, Richard was a project finance specialist at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell, HSBC Investment Bank and Macquarie Bank in London, Asia and Australia; a director of New Zealand’s largest privately financed irrigation project; the financial member of a dispute resolution board for the Sofiyska Voda water and wastewater concession in Bulgaria and led the infrastructure team for the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority in New Zealand.
