Amali Rajapaksa is based in the Sri Lanka office of the World Bank where she leads the dialogue on public-private partnerships (PPPs) and manages the transport portfolio. She joined the Bank in late 2003 as an Infrastructure Specialist covering the Bank’s portfolio on transport, energy and water in Sri Lanka, and has contributed greatly to the growth of the transport sector within the Bank’s portfolio in the country and has been instrumental in bringing the first PPP to the road sector. She has also been involved in the Bank’s energy projects in India and Pakistan.
Prior to joining the Bank, Amali worked for the Government of Sri Lanka at the Bureau of Infrastructure Investments, which was responsible for facilitating private investment into infrastructure projects. During this time she worked for seven years as Director of Power and Ports specializing in providing financial advice on PPPs and was involved in the negotiation of several independent power plants, the first PPP in the port sector, as well as work associated with the restructuring of the power sector. Prior to that, she worked for IBM in the United Kingdom.
Amali is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) with a Master’s degree in Business Finance from Brunel University in the UK.
