Anna I. Gueorguieva is a Senior Economist with the World Bank Group’s Social, Urban, Rural and Resilience Global Practice. Anna’s twelve years of work at the World Bank has been at the nexus of environment and economic development, including pollution management and city competitiveness, green urban development in Africa, deforestation in Mozambique and Indonesia, sustainable cities in Turkey, regional development of the Danube Delta in Romania, natural capital accounting, fuel subsidy reforms and other public expenditure analysis in Indonesia, as well as public utility and poverty analysis in the Western Balkans, Zambia and Russia. Anna holds a Masters and PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the American University in Bulgaria. She worked as a post-doc with the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture on issues of land use and biodiversity and co-founded and led the Bulgarian NGO “Terra” for sustainable waste management.
