Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist, World Bank

Chantal is a Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist from South African who has been working with the Bank as a consultant since 2012. Prior to this she worked for UNDP, Oxfam, and Tearfund in Liberia from 2006. This period of working in Liberia was transformational in Chantal’s career life as she shifted from fifteen years private sector in operations management in South Africa, Lesotho, and Mozambique to water work in the development sector. After starting in Liberia as an intern with Tearfund she graduated quickly to Country Director overseeing a humanitarian response program that included WASH programs. Moving on to Oxfam, Chantal then managed the Liberia WASH Consortium and during this time completed an MSc by Research at Cranfield University, focusing on aid architecture and models for the delivery of water projects in fragile states. Chantal is dedicated to building country systems and institutional strengthening and during her time with the Bank she has worked in Liberia on the preparation of a national Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Sector Investment Plan, in South Sudan on the development of a small towns water project with IFC, in Zimbabwe as Study Lead for an Impact Assessment Report on the Beitbridge Emergency Water Supply and Sanitation Project, and in Somalia on the preparation, implementation, and closure of the Water for Agro-Pastoralist Livelihood Project, the Biyoole and Barwaaqo projects.
