Diego Canales is a sustainable urban transport specialist at the World Bank. He currently oversees several of the new urban mobility initiatives for Mexico and Brazil, specifically Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Mexico City. His main focus is on open transport data initiatives paired with open source technologies and intelligent transport systems, transport demand strategies, integrated transport land-use planning, non-motorized initiatives, amongst others.
Prior to the World Bank he worked at Fundacion IDEA, a Mexico City based think tank focusing on public policies aimed at generating equal opportunity for Mexicans. Diego is a Mexican national, and holds an Master of City Planning from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master in European Integration from the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona. He also is an avid cyclist and bikes everywhere, anywhere.
