Lead Financial Sector Economist

Francesco Strobbe, an Italian national, has been a part of the World Bank Group since 2010 and currently serves as Lead Financial Sector Economist in the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice located in Jakarta, Indonesia. With over 18 years of experience in financial sector development, he has led development projects and policy dialogue in various countries across Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe, working for International Financial Institutions and NGOs.

In his current role, Francesco leads the financial sector development agenda of the World Bank in Indonesia. This includes investment lending operations and technical assistance focused on financial stability, financial inclusion, long-term finance, climate, and risk management. Prior to joining the World Bank, he served for the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund and led microfinance projects for NGOs in Zambia and Kenya.

Francesco holds a PhD in Economics and Management from the University of Padua (Italy) and has been a visiting scholar at Boston University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.
