For this first staging of the competition in Madagascar, young people were asked to share their vision for Madagascar, which is poor but endowed with abundant resources and potential, “Madagascar – land of a thousand smiles and a thousand sorrows.” Over 230 young people aged 18-28 submitted an entry to the competition. Thank you for your enthusiastic response!

Also, many thanks to Youth First and Malagasy Bloggers, which worked in close collaboration with the World Bank to launch the competition and select a winner from the top 15 pre-selected entries. A four-person panel interviewed the five finalists who most impressed with the quality and originality of their entries, as well as the depth of their writing: Tahina Roland Frederic, Maharisoa Ralambosoa, Tafitasoa Raymonde, Jenny Malala, and Claudia Navalonirina Raobelina. Claudia, who stood out for her sustained and lasting commitment to the development of her country, won the top prize.

Her entry can be accessed on Nasikiliza, the World Bank Group’s blog site.

Claudia will be joining us in Washington, D.C for the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings to be held April 16-22, 2018, to learn how our institution functions and gain a better understanding of development aid mechanisms.

About the winner:

Claudia is 22 years old and studies construction and public works at the École Supérieure Polytechnique of Antananarivo. She is a member of several youth associations and is passionate about drawing and writing. Please read her entry.

Once again, on behalf of all World Bank staff in Madagascar, congratulations!
