Alen Mulabdic is a Senior Economist in the Development Economics Prospects Group of the World Bank. His work focuses on international trade and macroeconomic issues, and he contributes regularly to the World Bank’s Global Economic Prospects report and other flagship publications. His current research examines how trade policy and geopolitical shocks are reshaping global trade and investment patterns.
Previously, he has studied the effects of deep trade agreements, technological diffusion, large natural disasters, and major transport infrastructure projects on trade and development. He has also explored the links between trade shocks and civil conflict, as well as assessed barriers in government procurement markets.
His work has been published in the Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Banking & Finance, and European Economic Review, and cited in the Economist, Financial Times, New York Times, and Guardian, among others. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, Switzerland.
