Stefan Emblad is Senior Adviser to the Managing Director, Operations, at the World Bank. Previously, he was the World Bank Director, International and Multilateral Affairs, in the External and Corporate Affairs Vice Presidency, a position he took up in December 2016 until February 2021.
Before taking on this role, Stefan was Director and Special Representative, Europe where he oversaw the Bank's institutional relationships and engagement with donor countries, Multilateral Development Banks, the OECD and key multilateral fora, such as the G7 and G20.
Previously, Stefan was Director and Special Representative, Europe where he oversaw the Bank's institutional relationships with European donor countries and institutions. A Swedish and Uruguayan national, he has extensive expertise in donor relations, development operations and policy, and communications. Previously, he was Director for Resource Mobilization (2009-2013) at the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and held several positions in the Swedish government and in multilateral organizations. Stefan was an Adviser to the Vice President, Concessional Finance and Global Partnerships, at the World Bank (2006-2009); Director and Deputy Head of the Multilateral Department at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and IDA Deputy (2002-2006); and Deputy Director and Executive Head for International Financial Institutions at the Swedish Ministry of Finance (2000-2002). He has also worked for the European Commission in Brussels and the United Nations Development Program in Cambodia.
