Verena Fritz is currently a member of the World Bank’s Governance and Public Institutions (EGVPI) unit, where she leads work on governance and climate change - focused on finding ways to strengthen institutions and to address political economy constraints to accelerating actions on adaptation and mitigation. Verena’s expertise and interests straddle PFM, HRM, governance and institutional challenges in sectors, accountability and transparency, as well as using political economy perspectives in development. She co-founded the World Bank’s Political Economy Community of Practice. For more than 15 years, Verena has task managed public sector operations and analytic work in Eastern Europe, Africa, and other regions, as well as focusing on governance diagnostic tools and innovative approaches to public sector reforms. She holds a PhD from the European University Institute.
